I also remember waxing a neighbors all original 10k mile Metallic blue 63 Cadillac convertible. Again blue rags. And that was a caddy. So if they didnt clearcoat, i doubt Chevrolet did. I have seen factory metallic paint that someone tried to sand and buff and they ruined the paint. When sandpaper hits the metallic specs in the paint it leave a discolored spot or streak. I could see the finger marks where they sanded and streaked it. It is kind of like what happens when you sand through clear into the b
